The Global Enterprise Challenge

We are taking part in the Global Enterprise Challenge. It is a wonderful idea: kids aged 9 to 11, from 30+ schools, in 20 different countries, collaborate to create the most succesful company of the ten international companies that have been created. For me, it's a fantastic way of promoting entrepreneurshipness among these young kids, who are going to face a future world where taking the lead may be their best chance in life. Moreover, it's an opportunity for them to work close to other kids from, say, Asia or America; to find out how difficult it might be to create a product in the real world; to work out how to solve problems they didn't even think about when they started; to gain experience using digital tools which mastery will be a must in their lifes...

It's amazing how excited my kids have gotten about the challenge. There are some other different classes in my program that have nothing to do with the GEC, and every day before classtime they would come to me in the playground to enquire if we are going to work on the challenge... and get disappointed when we are not. And I am sure it has very little to do with the prize and a lot with the creativity that it implies. They are making research, taking decisions, creating. And they love it.
